I just had a miscarriage. Why can't I try to get pregnant right away?

Most doctors recommend waiting for at least one normal period before trying to get pregnant again. The reason is to have an accurate way to date the pregnancy and thereby be able to assign an accurate due date. It can take several weeks for your period to come back after a miscarriage, so it can be very difficult to determine when ovulation occurred.

Nothing harmful will happen if you begin trying as soon as it is safe to have sex again.
